The Gum Thief is a uniquely structured and poignant exploration of human connection, isolation, and the often-unseen struggles that lie beneath the surface of everyday life. Bethany discovers Roger's journal in the employee break room. What she finds inside is startling: Roger has been writing mock diary entries from her point of view, and eerily, he gets many of her thoughts and feelings right. Intrigued, Bethany decides to respond, writing her own entries in Roger's journal, with the unspoken agreement that they will never acknowledge this correspondence in the "real world" of their workplace.
