Guide Size to Your Perfect Fit

At InkAndChic, we want you to feel as confident as you look. Since our collection focuses on curated sizes (XS–M) and select L pieces, we provide these measurements to help you choose the best fit for your silhouette.

1. Body Measurement Guide

Use these charts to compare your own measurements to our standard sizing. If you fall between sizes, we generally recommend sizing up for a more comfortable drape.

WOMEN'S TOPS (Shirts, Blouses, Sweaters). Tops are primarily measured by the bust (fullest part of the chest) and waist (narrowest part of the torso).

Our Chic Tip. The best way to ensure a great fit is to measure a top you already love at home (laying flat) and compare it to the measurements (Bust, Waist, Total Length, Sleeve Length, and Shoulder Width) listed in our product description. For the most accurate results, measure over your undergarments using a flexible cloth tape measure.

Measurement Definitions.

  • Bust: Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape horizontal and level around the back.
  • Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of the torso (usually just above the belly button).
  • Hips: For tops, "high hip" is usually measured about 7 inches below the waist. This is important for longer tunics or button-downs to ensure they don't pull at the bottom hem.
  • Shoulder Width (Long-sleeve & Tailored): From the edge of one shoulder bone to the other.
  • Sleeve Length: From the shoulder seam to the wrist.
  • Total Length: From the highest point of the shoulder (HPS) to the bottom hem.

2. How to Measure Yourself.

  • Bust: Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest and across your shoulder blades.
  • Waist: Measure around your natural waistline—this is the narrowest part of your torso, usually just above the belly button.
  • Hips: Stand with your heels together and measure around the fullest part of your hips (approximately 8" below your waist).

WOMENS'S BOTTOMS (Skirts, Trousers). General bottoms usually follow the same numeric sizing as tops but focus on the natural waist and hips (fullest part of the seat). Use the chart below to compare your own measurements to our standard sizing. If you fall between sizes, we generally recommend sizing up for a more comfortable drape.

WOMENS'S JEANS (Waist-Based Sizing). Jeans often use waist-circumference sizing and labeled by waist size (e.g., 26, 27) are based on inch measurements. This number corresponds to your actual waist measurement in inches, though many modern brands use vanity sizing, where the garment is actually 1–2 inches larger than the label suggests.

Our Chic Tip. If you are between sizes in jeans, consider the fabric. If it’s 100% cotton (rigid), size up. If it has 2% or more elastane/spandex, you can usually stick to your smaller size as they will stretch with wear.
